YOUNG ISRAEL OF WEST HARTFORD
MOVIE DAY AT THE MANDELL JCC HARTFORD JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL
Sunday Afternoon, March 22 at 2:15 p.m.
The Prime Ministers – Part Two:
Soldiers and Peacemakers
This film is part 2 of a docudrama based on the best-‐selling memoir by Ambassador Yehuda Avner, who served as chief aide and speechwriter to many Israeli prime ministers.
This film follows the diplomat's experiences during the years he worked for Israeli Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin. The film examines Rabin's election as the country's first native born Israeli leader, the Israel-‐Egypt 1975 peace
treaty, the dramatic Entebbe hostage rescue in 1976, Rabin's difficult relationship with President Jimmy Carter, his subsequent downfall in a financial scandal involving his wife, Leah and his tragic assassination in 1995.
The movie focuses on Ambassador Avner's time working under Menachem Begin, including Anwar Sadat's historic visit to Jerusalem, the Camp David negotiating process, the difficult relationship between President Carter and Menachem Begin as well as the tense relations that arose between Begin and President Reagan over the 1982 Lebanon War.
Full of emotion and rich history with rare, never before seen photos and archival footage, the film stars Michael Douglas as the voice of Yitzchak Rabin and Christoph Waltz as the voice of Menachem Begin.
