Nechama Liss-Levinson, Ph.D, is a psychologist and psychoanalyst who has spent many years helping people learn to cope with the difficulties and complexities of life. She received her BA from Barnard College, her PhD from Southern Illinois University, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Dept of Psychiatry at SUNY Stony Brook, and received a postdoctoral certificate in Intensive Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis from NYU. She has published numerous book chapters, as well as professional and popular articles on dealing with the developmental milestones of life, often focused on Jewish family life. She has written extensively on helping families grieve, especially dealing with children facing loss. Her book, When a Grandparent Dies: A Kid's Own Remembering Workbook for Dealing with Shiva and the Year Beyond (Jewish Lights Publishing) has helped thousands of children and their families and is now in its fifth printing. Dr. Liss-Levinson recently won the 2009 Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award for her children's book, When the Hurricane Came to New Orleans, a story about a young Jewish girl, Gertie, and her family, who must evacuate New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina arrives. The book is based on Dr Liss-Levinson's experiences as she was involved in two relief efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Liss-Levinson lives in Great Neck, New York with her husband, and is the very proud mother of two daughters, and very thrilled grandmother of two grandchildren.

The Commemorative Lecture will take place Sunday evening, June 12th. Mincha will be at 7:00pm. The keynote speech will commence at 7:30pm. The program will be followed by Maariv and refreshments. It will take place at the Young Israel of West Hartford, which can be found at 2240 Albany Avenue, West Hartford CT 06117.
About the Yahrzeit Commemorative Booklet
As in past years, Yahrzeit booklets will be distributed that include the names of family members and others whom we wish to remember on this occasion. These booklets are then used when remembering departed loved ones during Yizkor services.
For inclusion in the Yahrzeit Commemorative Booklet, please complete your submission no later than Wednesday May 25th. Even if you are unable to take part in the booklet, there is no cost to attend the lecture and it is sure to be both an educational and inspiring evening.
